VBCCC Library Program

The Challenge

In many rural Cambodian communities, reading is not yet a common habit. Children and teenagers often have limited access to books or libraries, especially in remote areas. Without the opportunity to read, young people miss out on critical skills that can shape their future — skills that help them learn, think critically, and explore the world beyond their village.

Our Aim

At the Volunteer Building Cambodia Community Centre (VBCCC), our Library Program aims to encourage a love of reading and help students become confident readers. By creating a safe and welcoming space for reading, we hope to inspire the next generation of learners and thinkers.

We want children and teenagers to:

  • Develop strong reading habits that last a lifetime
  • Improve English proficiency through reading English books
  • Expand knowledge about the world and different cultures
  • Strengthen communication skills and academic performance
  • Build confidence, curiosity, and creativity

Benefits of the Program

Reading is one of the most important skills for personal and community growth. In Cambodia, being able to read and understand books empowers students to:

  • Gain knowledge and expand their imagination
  • Improve English language skills, helping with school, higher education, and future jobs
  • Learn about diverse cultures, perspectives, and ideas
  • Build confidence in communication and discussion
  • Prepare for a better life for themselves, their families, and their communities
  • The Library Program not only improves literacy but also encourages critical thinking, creativity, and curiosity. Reading in English gives students an even bigger advantage, helping them access global knowledge and connect with the wider world.

Why This Program Matters

The VBCCC Library Program is about more than just reading books — it is about opening doors to knowledge, personal growth, and future opportunities. Every book a student reads strengthens their skills, expands their imagination, and helps them dream bigger.

By fostering a culture of reading, VBCCC is empowering the children of today to become the leaders, thinkers, and innovators of tomorrow.
