8 weeks Volunteer
Trip Highlights
- Supporting rural Cambodian children
Overview
Cambodia has seen a long history of destruction and war, which heavily impacted the social and economic balance of the country. The effects of the past still remain, further affecting the weaker section of the society, as people suffer from poverty, and problems including domestic violence, lack of human rights and proper education, environmental degradation, and poor healthcare.
Volunteer Building Cambodia Community Center (VBCCC) is a locally run, community-driven non-government organization that functions primarily as a school, providing extra education for Cambodian children.
Our educational programs consist of
- English lessons,
- computer lessons,
- hygiene lessons and
- access to our fully equipped library.
We also provide opportunities for families to learn new skills such as sewing, and planting a homegrown vegetable garden, enabling families to improve their financial and living conditions.

Living
Volunteer Building Cambodia Community Centre is a local organization all our living arrangements meet local standards. Our Volunteers have to simply arrive with their bags packed and that is it. We provide the best possible stay for our volunteers.
Airport Transfer
Volunteers are picked up from Siem Reap or Phnom Penh International Airport by the local coordinator or representative. Those volunteers who are arriving overland or are already in Cambodia will be picked up from the bus station or at a meeting point decided beforehand.
Accommodation,
Volunteers are provided with the option to live with a host family or in a volunteer house. Let us know about your preference and requirements in the application form, and we will try our best to accommodate your needs.
Staying with a local host family is exciting and a great opportunity for the volunteers to get to know the traditional customs, culture and ‘way of living’ of Cambodians. Our volunteers usually stay with middle-class families. Most volunteers will be accommodated in separate rooms. However, in a rare case, you would be sharing the room with a fellow volunteer. All host families are carefully selected and approved by the local staff and have past experience in hosting international volunteers. All accommodations have running water and electricity available.
The Volunteer Guesthouse is centrally located, and close to most of the popular tourist sites in Siem Reap. Here, volunteers share a room with other volunteers. This house is a great place to meet and interact with other like-minded volunteers from many different parts of the world. Internet facility is available for volunteers' use and laundry facilities are available at a small extra cost.
Orientation
An Eight-week intensive orientation will be provided by the local staff. Areas like culture, greetings, locations, transportation, safety, and volunteer placements are explained during the orientation. Volunteers are given a local tour of Siem Reap city as well as a welcome dinner.
Weekends
Siem Reap has a lot to offer and you will always find something of interest to do and see during your free time. There are a vast array of temples, museums, and historic sites to visit such as the National Museum, War Museum, Silk Farm, Landmine Museum and Angkor Wat Temple. You can also join the local Khmer cuisine cooking classes if that interests you! You will have longer free time available on the weekends when you can visit the nearby Pub street and Local Market.
